Lance Castle is a pretty
house built of mellow stone and set in the tiny hilltop village
between Lucca and Pistoia (600 meters above sea level) part of a
huge stone building dating back to the 1200's - and which was a
Ghibelline castle. In the castle there are two apartments the Fairy
and the Elf. Its name derived from the utensils that the inhabitants
produced lances.

In the upper part of the village you can admire
the church, which lost its Romanesque features when it was rebuilt
before 1638 and adopted the Baroque style. Nearby the original guard
tower has been transformed into the present day bell tower. The Castle
villa has a lovely terraced grassy garden with trees, swimming pool
[7.5 x 4 metres], and barbeque. |

The Castle sits at the edge of the little
village, and is surrounded by miles of woodland where you can enjoy
long walks and the whole area is a patchwork of medieval hilltop
villages that are all worth a visit. The village, though tiny, has
a bar/pizzeria, which also sells a few basic foodstuffs. The area
makes a good base for touring being with easy driving distance of
many famous places including Lucca, Pisa and Florence and this is
